Course Description
In this course you will learn to select components and install, test, fault find, repair and maintain refrigeration systems and equipment for food storage and preservation. You’ll also learn to apply these skills for air-conditioning and air distribution equipment for buildings and premises. The course covers the regulatory requirements for purchasing and handling refrigerants.
This course satisfies the requirements for workers applying for a (RAC01) Refrigerant Handling Licence with the Australian Refrigeration Council.
Once successfully completed, you can apply for your refrigerant handling licence through Arctick.
To be eligible to undertake the course you must currently hold an Australian Unrestricted Electrical Licence. Plumbing professionals may be eligible to complete this qualification if they have previously completed the Restricted Electrical Licence course and hold the units that are listed as Credit Transfer.
EXPERIENCE: Ensure that you have from 2 to 4 years experience or the ability to gain this experience pending the state you reside in and plan to apply for a licence.

Content Delivery
Theory Assessment (Online Self-Paced), Practical Assessments (approx. 1 week Face to Face an extra week can be scheduled as required), On The Job practical Supervisor sign off.
Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the skills to:
- Diagnose and rectify faults in air conditioning and refrigeration control systems.
- Establish basic operating systems – air conditioning & vapour compression systems.
- Install refrigerant pipe work, flow controls and accessories.
- Install, commission, service and maintain low & medium temperature systems.
- Recover and charge refrigerants.
- Solve problems in low voltage refrigeration and air conditioning circuits

The refrigeration handling licence will allow you to install, decommission, fault find, and repair commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning systems as a fully qualified refrigeration mechanic.

Persons who have not completed the apprenticeship, may be eligible to apply if they can demonstrate four years of relevant experience under the supervision of a person who holds a RAC licence and can demonstrate that they hold the same skills and knowledge as a person who has completed the prescribed units from the UEE32220 (this is done via a ‘non-apprentice registration’ exam for this class). Persons who apply via this ‘non apprentice pathway’ must also hold a hold a current ARCtick card showing one of the following refrigerant handling licences: • RAC01 • RSS003
